google analytics fix to referring source
Google offers one of the most comprehensive web analytics packages on the planet for free. Although it is a phenomenal product it does have some limitations which are known through the web analytics community. One such problem is the lack of knowing exactly where a referring source is originating from. Under the referring source report you are able to see where traffic is being directed from, but it is limited. If it is coming from a message board for example it will not show the exact thread in which users were clicking to your site from. Reuben Yao has come up with a solution to this problem. On his blog he figured out a way of adding additional javascript coding to get the more detailed information that web analysts crave. Normally reserved for tracking events such as Flash and other types of web based activities Reuben modified the Flash derived tracking code. By adding the additional tracking code he was able to have the referring source report give full threads from message boards, enhancing the reporting abilities of Google Analytics. Here at Sonicko we're continuing to test this out before we deploy it to all of our clients, but our initial results look positive.
